GUEST QUOTES

tripadvisor REVIEW; ***** “This place is so relaxing! Ten out of Ten to Ann, her son and staff and cat for providing a great haven for travellers to Rotorua. The accomodation was spot on for the two of us, well presented and immaculately kept and having all the facilities we needed for our all-too-brief 3 night stay.Ann is very welcoming and a mine of information. Unusually her recommendations for restaurants, takeaways and trips were spot on!”  warwickrockers, Sheffield ,Apr 8, 2010Hotel and Vacation Reviews

tripadvisor REVIEW; ***** The perfect weekend relaxation break We live up in Auckland and discovered Ann's Volcanic by chance on one trip down to Rotorua. It's a lovely motel, clean, well equipped and spacious with cheerful, friendly staff. Several of the rooms have their own garden with a good size spa bath outside. We've now made the trip down to Rotorua on several occasions purely to go and stay here and spend a weekend away from it all relaxing in the spa with a good bottle of wine or two. Would highly recommend it :-)                        Valery76,  Auckland. May 21, 2010
tripadvisor REVIEW; ***** Best hospitality in NZ. Staying at Ann's was a real treat. She went out of her way to provide the best service I've ever experienced. The rooms were clean and comfortable for a semi-budget traveler. The location was convenient and within walking distance of local restaurants, shops, grocery. Ann was helpful to point out fun things to do as well as great places to eat in town. No task seemed too big for Ann; the treatment was definitely four star. The motel was attractive and quiet and the area was safe. Good parking, too. I would definitely recommend this motel, and would return myself. Rotorua is a great spot to stay while taking day trips to other locales. And Ann's is a must stop and stay kind of place. Bigfunincowtown,  Austin,  Apr 26, 2010.

I'll definitely be going back here “  jussie77  auckland Mar 23, 2010
tripadvisor REVIEW; ***** Ann's (and Ann herself) is Awesome!
Rotorua has a very kitchy vibe and Ann's Volcanic fits right in! Nothing about the place is stuffy or corporate. Personal photography of Rotorua and the surrounding areas adorns the walls. The room we stayed in was spacious and warm. The bathroom was also large. There was a little kitchenette area that would be handy if you were trying to save money by eating in. Of course, the highlight of staying here is Ann herself. Friendly as can be, she is also very knowledgeable and a wealth of information. She recommended and booked a Maori cultural experience for us, as well as gave us some tips for visiting the Wai-o-Tapu Geothermal area. There is wi-fi internet available for a minimal fee, I think it was probably $5NZ, and it covers your whole stay. Very handy! TheJamesGang, Nashville, TN Mar 5, 2010
tripadvisor REVIEW; ***** “Greatest Motel in RotoruaFantastic Motel with excellent rooms, service and staff. I have tried several Motels in Rotorua in the past but find this to be the best stay in Rotorua by a country mile. This is now the only motel I stay at in town and wouldn't even consider looking elsewhere!!!” metalrep   Auckland Jan 25, 2010                                                                                           tripadvisor REVIEW; ***** “A Highly Recommended Motel
Ann's Volcanic is a wonderful place to stay if you are in Rotorua. My mother and I made a trip from the US to New Zealand and spent two nights in Rotorua there. We had a suite and it was highly satisfactory. The suite was immaculately clean and nicely decorated. You could obviously tell that Ann takes pride in her units. We had a fenced-in rear terrace with a jacuzzi and that was a nice touch, although we didn't use it during our stay.
The best part about staying at Ann's is Ann herself. She was a wonderful host, very friendly while not being pushy, and she gave us great advice on shopping and what to do in Rotorua. I plan on going back to New Zealand one day and if I'm in Rotorua I will definitely stay at Ann's again. Her rooms are exactly as described on her website at http://www.rotoruamotel.co.nz and despite the NZ/USA time difference she was quick about answering emailed questions. crybick   Athens, Alabama  Jan 24, 2010
tripadvisor REVIEW; ***** “ANN'S COOL Ann's place the Volcanic motel was a perfect place for our family to stay.
We like privacy and the little courtyard out of our spacious room was perfect.
We spent our first night in the hot tub with our 7 year old son and he had a terrific time.
Ann I think is an old soul.... besides being friendly and comfortable she gave us great suggestions and advice. I would most definitely stay at her place again. Thanks Ann until then!” yankwi   New Plymouth Jan 23, 2010
tripadvisor REVIEW; ***** “Ann is the best person i have met. the hotel was situated in a good location, the rooms I found very small, the help and assistance was really great, all information was placed and explained very well. over all the service was fantastic. Thank you all.AdatFAmily   Auckland Jan 23, 2010
tripadvisor REVIEW; ***** “Great service and lovely room!
Ann is a lovely lady and always had a smile on her face, very helpfull with directions and advice on what's good and what's not. She recommended i go to a beautiful little coffee shop a bit out of town and it was the perfect spot! She has a lot of local knowledge you just need to ask! The room was just as described online. The room was clean and tidy, kitchen had everything i needed to cook a meal. Parking is right out the front of your room and the local shop is a 5 minute walk down the road. It is a distance from the town centre but this also means it's a nice quiet spot. A very friendly and nice place to stay!”                            pink_sar8   Sydney Aug 7, 2008

Rotorua, New Zealand: More Than Just Another Pretty Place

Want to Get Married in New Zealand?

Welcome to beautiful New Zealand! New Zealand is famous for it’s Anti Nuclear policy, green pastures, blue sea, crystal clear night skies, fjords and sheep.

But we mustn’t forget the Kiwi (the fruit), Carlos Spencer, Daniel Carter, Jonah Lomu and Ritchie Mc Caw (All Black Rugby players),‘Xena’ – Lucy Lawless (obviously), Russell Crowe(Gladiator) , Crowded House (terrific band – now disbanded) and having had the most famous Minister of Parliament in the world; Georgina Beyer.

My place – Rotorua claims Cliff Curtis (‘3 Kings’), Tem Morrison (‘Star Wars’) and gorgeous All Blacks; Richard Kahui (born 20 mins out of town) and Liam Messam as their own.

But back to nature….Rotorua is a volcanic wonderland on the Central Plateau of the North Island and the Lake District of the North Island of New Zealand. Anticipate staying a minimum of 2 nights.

Rotorua is dimpled with thermal parks. Waimangu Volcanic Valley is situated 17 km south of Rotorua City and is awe inspiring. Internationally graded ‘A’ as a protected environment; Waimangu has been protected since the eruption of the Tarawera Volcano in 1886. My favourite – Waimangu is a beautiful park of steaming volcanic craters created by the Tarawera eruption in 4 and ½ hours, one terrible June night.

Down the road a little, is Wai-o-tapu Thermal Wonderland. The pretty coloured pools and the daily eruption at 10.15 am, of the ‘Lady Knox’ Geyser make this are one of the most popular thermal areas to visit.

At Te Puia in the Whakarewarewa area, you can watch Pohutu Geyser ‘play’ (erupt) almost every 40 minutes. The mud plops and bubbles and there is a Maori Cultural performance at 10.15am, 12.15pm and 3.15pm every day of the year.

Slide into a pool of mud at Hell’s Gate and therapy becomes fun!

Adventure fanatics take a deep breath – Rotorua is home of the ZORB. Have you ever thought you’d like to roll down a big grassy hill in a huge ball of bubble-wrap? Great! You are going to be so happy when you get in this crazy kiwi invention.

Wet or dry? This is my simple explanation; Wet – you will stay sitting almost upright as the ZORB rolls down the hill…you will be wet. Dry – you will roll with your ZORB over and over til you reach the bottom- but…you’ll be dry.

Rotorua is the only place on earth where you can take a 5+ rafting trip over the Okere Falls on the Kaituna River. The highest grade in the world. You are picked up from your accommodation and delivered back about 3 hours later. Short, sharp and thrilling! Wetsuits are provided, along with a crash helmet and a life jacket.

Adventure bunnies will also love to bungy, kayak, swoop or shweeb. It sounds like gibberish now but you’ll be speaking the language before you leave Rotorua.

Rotorua is the heart of Maori culture…so don’t miss enjoying a Maori Hangi and Concert. You will enjoy a concert performance and learn a lot about the Maori People of New Zealand. The hangi is a feast. The food is cooked underground and is just mouth watering! A buffet meal of ground vegetables like potato, sweet potato, pumpkin, carrots, and greens …spinach or peas. There is beef, lamb and chicken and usually a fish dish. Vegetarians are well taken care of too. A steamed pudding follows with yummy fresh whipped New Zealand Cream.

Make sure you visit the Agrodome Sheep show – performing sheep 3 times a day… hard to believe isn’t it? You’ll have seen sheep all over the fields in New Zealand but these sheep are special. The ‘littlies’ get to bottle-feed the lambs and the farm tour will get you into a rural frame of mind.

Don’t miss Rainbow Springs. There is a kiwi (the bird) breeding programme and you can see kiwis bolting around in their natural environment at night in the bush (once again-the bird).

The ‘kiwis’ (New Zealanders) are bolting around in their natural environment at night too.

Visit the pub – ‘The pig and Whistle’ is a popular haunt and the food is really good. They have a band on the weekend. ‘Henneseys’ is fun too…with a pretty good Irish ‘knees-up’ on Thursday nights and the food is classic Irish and nourishing.

For breakfast or lunch I go to the ‘Fat Dog Cafe’ or ‘Abracadabra cafe’ . The ‘Fat Dog’ has great fish n chips (fush n chups) with a beer batter and ‘Abracadabra’ has Morrocan food and my favourite is the Calamari salad.

After a hard day holidaying, the best stop of all, is the Polynesian Spa. Wonderful to ease the tired limbs and is open til 11pm every night. You can have an ‘aix’ massage; massage under warm mineral water, or a mud wrap, or choose from a variety of therapies. Half hour or full hour treatments are available .

And after a full day …come home to Ann’s Volcanic Rotorua Motel for a quiet and relaxed stay. I’ve been listed on Purple Roofs since 1997! World famous Ann’s Volcanic Rotorua Motel and Serviced Apartments has been featured in the Lonely Planet Guide Book for 13 years & has been the ‘Author’s Pick’ since 2006 til now.

We are also featured in the French Guide Book – oh la la… ‘Petit Fute’ since 2007. Also a NZ Tourism Award Finalist in the season 2001-2002; Ann’s Volcanic has accommodation ranging from standard to fabulous! We have organic vegie gardens and fruit trees. Rotorua is gorgeous, scenic and active.
